INAUGURATION OF “All Blacks”All blacks Hockey club was born on the 2nd February, 1971, when the then men’s only club Combines decided to change their name. Members Kev and Flora Holcroft felt that the club should incorporate women’s hockey as well. This proved to be a popular decision at the annual meeting and the combined men’s and women’s club was started. Meeting Closed at 9:00pm 1972 Founding members Kev and Flora Holcroft then proceeded to expand the club ranks until we see what is the most successful club in Bundaberg today. The Names of founding club members Holcroft and Elder are still predominate in today’s decision making and fundraising events of the All Blacks Hockey Club. Over the years the club's motto of our “Youth of to-day is the strength of tomorrow” rings true with new generations of family names continuing to carry through the family atmosphere that the founding members started in the early 70’s. Bundaberg Hockey’s claim to the international fame comes from All Blacks Hockey Club. Troy Elder has been part of the Australian team since early 1990’s and was voted Number 1 player by peers at the Malaysian Champions Trophy in 2004. All Blacks Hockey Club can also boast the most state and international representatives in Bundaberg's Hockey Associations History. All Blacks senior women only have 2 titles both were the most memorable 1st in the 1975 season and the second in the 2004 season. The men have enjoyed a few more premiership wins since the inauguration of the club back in the 70,s. All Blacks Women and Men have been in a redevelopment period for the last few years, and the club supporters have high expectations of both men and women this season. The All Blacks executive feel confident that the supporter’s thoughts are on the right track. All Blacks Hockey Club has conducted coaching clinics with names like Troy Elder, Matt Welch, Brent Livermore and Nickel Taylor invited to coach our juniors and has proved successful for all that attended the coaching clinics. Current club executives are trying to maintain the momentum stated all those years ago with the next generation beginning to become involved with the club coaching and management. The future of All Blacks Hockey club looks to be in good order as new ideas are explored and new challenges present themselves. Tony Neller |
